Directions to Chichen Itza
It would be a shame to visit Cancun and not spare a single day to visit this wonder of the world and colossal result of the brilliant engineering and building skills of the Mayan people. Chichen Itza held the title of the holy capital of the Mayans until the Spaniards arrived to America and was often compared to Jerusalem or Mecca for the importance it had for its people. The most prominent building in Chichen Itza is the El Castillo or Temple of Kukulkan which can rival the Egyptian pyramids in size and looks.
There are plenty of guided tours from Cancun that visit Chichen Itza that include overnight or daily visit. Since in summer the sun can take its toll high in the mountain we recommend visiting it at sunset or even night and you'll witness an amazing sight as the pyramids appear to bathe in the star filled sky.
