Description
Meet your guide and the rest of the group in Playa del Carmen and head to a nearby café for a coffee and snack (not included). Then, depart for the jungle to discover the extraordinary caves that are shrouded in the myths of the ancient Mayans. Walk through the lush jungle, equipped with all necessary gear for your trek. Upon arrival at the cave entrance, your guide will explain the type of cave you will be exploring and give you a few safety guidelines. Learn how to follow the signal system to get in and out of the cave. Then, enter the cave system and explore for around 2 to 3 hours. Discover a large subterranean system with plenty of room to move and breathe. There will be no need to swim underwater to reach any of the caves, so you can leave the scuba diving equipment at home! Marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave and see limestone columns and the astonishing sinkholes known as 'cenotes'. Benefit from the expert knowledge of a guide who will tell you everything you need to know about all the different types of limestone formations. Venture along beautiful subterranean streams and swim across turquoise cenotes to reach small passageways that open into large caves. Relax once you reach the end of the cave system and emerge into the sunlight and fresh jungle air. Enjoy a snack before taking part in an ancient and traditional Mayan ritual of drumming and singing to give thanks to the Aluxes (sprites or spirits) who are the guardians of the Xibalba (underworld). Then, make your way back out of the jungle and stop at a local home to experience the local lifestyle. Return to Playa del Carmen for drop off at the meeting point and the end of the tour services.Includes
